TRAILS NORTH Featuring The Trails Of Valley East
Throughout the former City of Valley East there are numerous trails, most of which have been around for many years and most of those pass over private property. To date there are only three trails that are on city owned land and over the next few months we will highlight those trails. We will also show trails that are not "legal" but have been in use for decades.
NOTE: IN REGARDS TO THE ATV.
Sharp eyes will note a tendency towards negativity whenever the subject of ATVs comes up and a similar attitude towards Snow Machines but not as severe. The reasoning is simple, I remember the Valley before ATVs and being able to walk on trails anywhere, summer or winter. In winter snow machines riding on renegade trails made walking on those trails possible without interfering with users of the official snow machine trails. It was great to be able to go to places you could not go any other time of year such as swamps, streams, lakes, etc.
Regardless of the season anytime a ATV goes over a piece of land it leaves some form of permanent mark. When the ground is wet the ATV driver tends to experience wheel spin which strips off the top layer of an unpaved surface the end result is a rut. When the rut gets deep enough, a new trail has to be started. In drier areas, surface vegetation is stripped off resulting in a surface that is more beach then meadow. Result, trails that were once available to all users are now left almost exclusively to the ATV.

A WALK NORTH OF THE WHITSON
THE ROUTE. MUCH OF THIS TRAIL WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PART OF THE TRAIL JOINING BLEZARD VALLEY AND THE REST OF VALLEY EAST WITH CAPREOL. STILL, A NICE WALK ON IT'S OWN, EXCEPT FOR THE ODOUR FROM THE SEWAGE PLANT.
WE BEGIN. WE GO ONTO THE TRAIL JUST EAST OF THE SEWAGE PLANT ON YORKSHIRE.
WE HEAD SOUTH WITH THE DITCH ON OUR LEFT.
WE BARE RIGHT INTO THE BUSH.
WE LEFT IT A BIT LATE IN THE DAY SO THE SUN WAS OFTEN IN OUR FACES.
STRAIGHT AHEAD TO THE RIVER.
WE KEEP RIGHT INSTEAD.
LOOKING DOWN ON THE RIVER FROM A HIGH BANK.
WE PARALLEL THE RIVER COMING CLOSE TO THE FRAPPIER STREET ENTRANCE BEFORE BARING RIGHT.
FUZZ CHECKS OUT THE ROAD BUT WE'RE GOING BACK INTO THE BUSH.
THE BUSH SCENERY IS ALWAYS CHANGING. THIS TREE WAS UPRIGHT WHEN LAST I LOOKED.
WE'VE HEADED BACK TO THE 'MAIN' TRAIL.
THE MAIN TRAIL.
LEFT IS WEST.
RIGHT IS EAST.
SEWAGE PLANT THROUGH THE BUSH. YOU SMELL IT BEFORE YOU SEE IT.
WE EXIT BACK ONTO YORKSHIRE.
RIGHT NEXT TO THE SEWAGE PLANT.
